Albanian Bunkers
During the years of Communism there was a great paranoia about invasion from the West. Enver Hoxha, the Albanian leader, built bunkers everywhere in the country. One cannot go anywhere and not see these cement testimonies of another era. This one is on a ridge by a reservoir we swam at in the summer. It is just above a small village that is above Peshkopi. |

These bunkers protected the main way up to the reservoir. Many of the young boys would swim in their underwear and lay on these bunkers to warm up. We never found girls in the reservoir. |
Here one can see the size of a small bunker compared to Fuji. The insides are often full of garbage and stickers and brush. Many are connected via tunnels and if one can beat through the brush they make an interesting tunneling experience. These would make interesting tourist attractions ! |

As there are bunkers in the country side there
are tunnels in the mountain sides. |
