Hiking the Hills of Peshkopi

This hike took us to the Northeast of town towards the Macedonian boarder. We followed the river that runs through the center of town toward its origin, which is about 5 km into the mountains. We had three Peace Corps volunteers join us for this trip. Gabe (second from the left) is on a project in a village close to us. The other two, Ben and Mathew, are from Lac and Lazhe, which is near Tirana.

If anyone asks Jim what he did on his 50th birthday he can say he went on a hike! Here we went up the same canyon as with the Peace Corps folks but found a side canyon with this great little creek. We tried to make it all the way up but it turned out to be too steep with just our Tevas. So we came down a bit and decided to sit in the water and have a little wine and ponder the view. Not a bad way to spend a birthday!
