Peshkopi-Home Sweet Home

Panorama out of our East window. The Drin River is below in the fog.

This is the main road we take to go to town each day. If you were to drive, you would stay on the road and bear left. But, the quicker way is to walk and hang a right where the two people are in the distant. "The road" has pot holes that are "knee deep" and we have seen cars disappear never to be seen again ;-). "The road" is the only one that comes up to our neighborhood.

To walk to town takes 10-15 minutes. There are four flights of stairs to get to the center.

Did you notice the cow? Cows, chickens, goats, cats and dogs provide an important role in the recycling system.

Such as cleaning out the trash containers. We all place our trash into these 3 walled areas and the local animals clean out all the organics. Twice a week the local garbage company comes and picks up the rest.
At times we really don't understand why we bought a vehicle when we could have a Mercedes like this take us through "the roads". They are really effective and efficient methods of transportation. Town is 1/3 horse (donkey) carts and 2/3 vehicles. Driving the roads is a challenge at times because you've got to pass these carts, other horses and donkeys, and watch for pedestrians and pot holes too!
I like this guy's style. He has probably walked for many hours to get somewhere and just decided it was time for a nap. He is probably not intoxicated as that is not socially accepted-he has just had a long day and needed a rest. Maybe someone will give him a ride.

Back in Peshkopi people and animals make their way across the bridge that serves many purposes.
