Prizren
On a sunny Saturday in February we (Janice, Les, Fuji & jim) took a bus trip to Prizen for the day. It is a 1 1/2 hours bus drive from Pristina and it was as beautiful as people had told us. The architectural influence is Turkish. It was once the "medieval capital of Old Serbia."

The town is located at the base of a beautiful mountain range that "rings" Kosovo. The other side of this view point (east) would be Albania. Directly south, would be Macedonia. |

A closer view of this bridge. We don't know the year is was built, but it is very impressive. |

Part of the river-front in Prizren. You can see the pedestrian walk. Further down are cafe's with outside seating--very nice. The trees, unfortunately, are "pruned" in a way that is no longer considered "best practices" by most foresters. |

The weekend we arrived was"carnival" for them and the kids had parade! The faces were painted and there was a band and lots of loud announcement's in the square. It was close in timeframe to Mardi Gras, Fat Tues, Ash Wed, etc.... but we never got any confirmation that these events were connected. |

We began touring the town! This is Jim with Les and Janice. They are Americans, from Seattle, who have been traveling and doing international work in many countries, (as we are hoping to do). They are sponsored by an American Jewish group. Les is a psychologist working as a professor at the University of Pristina. Janice is a social worker, currently doing development and project work for the American University of Kosovo Foundation. |

A local street! Fuji loves pictures of alleys and windy streets. You can tell this is old architecture and not cement-communist style neighborhoods. |
