| The office is a short walk from the flat. It is across Bill Clinton Street by the customs office in an industrial section of town. This is Gjylieta at the front door to the office. No hustle of the downtown area here-much to the chagrin of some staff- as the cafes are a ways away! | ![]() |

The initial staff. Fuji, Shqipe (pronounced: sheep- pe) and Gjylieta (julietta). There is an additional employee now, Valbona. At first it was Gjylieta, Fuji & Jim but as the organization needed to grow and capacity built Shqipe was hired as a program manager/administrative person. But she was going to school full time and couldn't juggle everything so she had to drop back to part time and Valbona was hired to take care of the administrative work. |

Gjylieta at her desk with the trusty fax machine at her side (I've never seen it used). |

Shqipe taping all the receipts onto paper during the monthly close out procedure. As this is a cash world (no checks, credit cards or ATM's) all transactions need receipts-no receipt no reimbursement. The receipt expenses are entered into excel, accounts sorted and balanced at months end then all are taped onto paper and sent to the US funder in DC. There they are verified and reimbursement wired to a bank here. |

The inverter!
Unfortunately, it didn't power the heaters and we would often all huddle in one room to try and conserve heat. Some days we'd just give up an all go home as it was to cold. Ah, that was the good old days. Now power is on for 5 hours and off for one! But how long will this last? |
