A Musical Weekend

This past weekend we got in some music events! Friday night we went to the Fidel Club. This is a Cuban scene with the decorative environment of Fidel Castro and Cuba--complete with Cuban cigars (we didn't buy any though ;-(. The live band, their house band, is pretty good. We heard them on the street a week before. They were inside and it was jammin'. But then the second band came out and was techno. The lights and dance scene really picked up! It became a bit too much for us though and we left. As it turns out, it was 1 am anyway. Wow, late nights on the town for us! Sunday afternoon was a fundraiser for HIV/AIDS and there was a talent show kind of music thing set up in the pedestrian walk street. It was OK talent but the scene was fun-good people watching and a beautiful sunny yet cool day. In the park (which is adjacent to the pedestrian walk) there were other musicians playing here and there and a band of old-timers playing marching band kind of music. All of the park scene we think was connected to the Jazz celebration. At night was the free jazz festival in front of the Opera House. We enjoyed this a bunch. All kinds of Jazz-new age to dixieland. Each act played 20-30 minutes. It ended about 11 or so.
