Our Leaky Flat
The flat is not as nice as the one in Kosovo as it is in an old building with tall ceilings and poor lighting from outside but has a balcony overlooking the inside court yard (really more of a parking zone for the shop owners below). Since the buildings are so old, they are crumbling and have the look of years of neglect. We also discovered that when it rains, as it has the past 2 days, the ceiling leaks-heavily and right over the bed. Luckily we had gotten out of bed before the leak started but had to scramble to get the bed out of the way, get pots and pans down to catch the water and call our hosts to get the landlady to try and fix the problem. But it was Sunday and our host and landlady were not around till late in the afternoon. So around 4 pm they showed up and looked at the problem and sighed. No one was available to fix it, as it was late Sunday. So we slept in the living room.
Luckily today (Monday) she came and had some guy's fix it (an interesting dynamic of sighing, walking around the building trying figure the paths of the leaks, hammering, cement work and caulking) and it hasn't leaked since but it hasn't been raining as hard as it had been. Time will tell and I really hope the fix is permanent-or at least for 6 months. This town is old and historic and many buildings have this problem and I'm sure when winter comes it will be hard to heat too. Such is the adventure of living in historic or should I say old housing-I think.
